Your First 90 Days in a New Job: How to Stand Out

By: The Look Jobs Team

Your first three months shape how your team sees you for a long time. In many companies, this is also the formal probation or onboarding period.

Month one: learn

  • Understand what's expected of you and how your work will be measured. Ask your manager directly.
  • Take notes on names, processes and tools.
  • Observe the culture: schedules, the tone of messages, how decisions get made.

Month two: contribute

  • Take on small tasks and hit your deadlines.
  • Ask for feedback early, not just at the end.

Month three: show results

  • Suggest one concrete improvement in your area.
  • Schedule a check-in with your manager: what's going well and what to adjust.

If you're working in a second language

It's normal to feel more tired at first. Ask people to repeat things when needed, and confirm important agreements in writing.
