Video Interviews: A Checklist for Candidates and Employers

Online interviews are now the norm, especially when the candidate and employer are in different cities or countries. A few simple steps prevent big problems.
For candidates
- Test the link, camera, microphone and internet connection beforehand.
- Confirm the meeting time zone, especially with employers in another country.
- Pick a quiet spot with light facing you.
- Keep the camera at eye level and look at it when you answer.
- Keep your resume and the job description open nearby.
- Dress as you would for an in-person interview.
For employers
- Send an invite with the date, time, time zone and link, plus a contact in case of issues.
- Say which language the interview will be in.
- Introduce everyone on the call and explain the next steps in the process.
- At the end, tell candidates when they'll hear back. On Look Jobs, you can update the application status and the candidate is notified automatically.
