How to Spot Fake Job Offers and Employment Scams

By: The Look Jobs Team

Job scams are on the rise, especially for remote roles and jobs abroad. Here are the red flags to watch for.

Red flags

  • They ask you for money: sign-up fees, required training, equipment or uniforms. Real employers don't charge candidates.
  • Pay that sounds too good to be true for little work or no experience.
  • Extreme urgency: "Reply today or lose the offer."
  • Requests for bank details or ID before any interview.
  • Contact only through messaging apps, from a generic email with no company website.
  • A "guaranteed visa" in exchange for payment.

How to protect yourself

  • Look up the company and make sure it really exists.
  • Never pay to get a job.
  • Share personal documents only after an interview and a formal offer.
  • For work in the U.S., check visa rules on official U.S. government websites.

Look Jobs does not allow job posts that charge candidates anything. If a posting looks suspicious, let us know.
